Football season is about more than what happens under the Friday night lights. It’s about the traditions, relationships and people who help shape our student-athletes along the way.

Now in its second year, Helmets with Heroes brings Oak Ridge football players together with the individuals who have made a meaningful impact on their lives. Each player has the opportunity to recognize someone who has supported, encouraged or inspired them and invite that person to share in a special tradition — preparing their helmet for the season by placing the Oak Ridge logos and decals they will proudly wear on the field.

But the event is about much more than putting stickers on a helmet.

It’s a chance for our players to recognize the people whose encouragement, sacrifice, guidance and love have helped them become who they are. And as those helmets are prepared for another season, they serve as a reminder that no player steps onto the field alone.

Every time a War Eagle puts on his helmet, he carries with him the people who have invested in him, believed in him and supported him every step of the way.

When the War Eagles take the field, those helmets will represent more than a team. They’ll represent the heroes in our players’ lives, the families who support them, and the school and community standing behind them.
