Coach Wells is entering his 31st year of coaching.  He returned to Oak Ridge in 2023 after serving as the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at James Bowie High School in Simms, Texas, for two years, during which his teams posted a combined 14-8 record and advanced to the State Quarterfinals in 2022.  From 2016-2021, Coach Wells served as receivers and corners coach at Oak Ridge and taught Government and Economics.  Coach Wells has coached teams that earned a Texas State Championship in 2002 with a record of 14-1 and State Semifinal appearances in 2003 (13-1), 2004 (11-4), and 2005 (12-2), as well as many district and area championships.  Currently, he teaches P.E. and serves as the Head Golf Coach for the War Eagles.  

Shawn is a cum laude graduate of East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas, where he earned a degree in Business Administration with minors in Management and Marketing in 1990.  After working in the banking industry for several years, Coach Wells made a career change and obtained his teaching certification from Texas A & M at Texarkana in 1996.  He holds certifications in Physical Education, Social Studies and Health.  Shawn is dedicated to both coaching and quality education.

Coach Wells has been married to his wife, Tia, for 35 years.  They have a son, Luke, who is completing his residency in audiology at U.T. Southwestern in Dallas and a daughter, Emily, who holds a master’s degree in accounting and presently works at Sarah Berry, C.P.A. in Texarkana, Texas.  When not coaching, Shawn enjoys playing golf and spending time with his family.
